In Winning Color

Artist Statement:

“In Winning Color” was inspired by the 150^th running of The Kentucky Derby. I chose to incorporate previous winning jockey silks in a stripe pattern turning the jockey silk design into a modern interpretation. All of the stripes on the side of the horse are patterns from actual winning jockeys from years past. Some of the winning silks included are from legends like Secretariat, Gato Del Sol, Barbaro, and American Pharoah. The roses are hand-painted, and represent the Garland of Roses, and the gold is gold leaf, to add to the winning design.
