Silky Smooth

Artist Statement:

To celebrate the150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby, “Silky Smooth” features bright geometric patterns inspired by historical Derby silks. Bold and colorful patterns adorn every surface of the horse. The design represents the colorful history of Louisville and a bright future for Kentucky traditions. This horse aims to empower viewers to stand out and be bold!

Cara and Olivia painted “Silky Smooth” to honor 1st-generation Gallopalooza artist, Leyda Smith, who painted the Gallopalooza horse “Fern Gully” in the inaugural year of Gallopalooza in 2004. The Mother and Daughter duo is grateful to the sponsor Stites and Harbison for the opportunity to honor their Mother and Grandmother, respectively.
