SHOW WINNER for Best Brightside-Themed Design!

Artist Statement:

My design titled “The Roses” pays homage to the nickname of the Kentucky Derby (The Run for the Roses) as well as a nod to the Rose Fairy in the Brown-Forman Nutcracker’s Waltz of the Flowers by the Louisville Ballet. The design is made up of large multi multi-colored roses. The colors are inspired by the lighting and costumes from the annual holiday tradition. The statue is painted with exterior latex paint. I approached the painting in the same way that I approach collage projects, working in overlapping shapes.
